However, the difference here is that in the Look scheduling algorithm, the head of the disk stops moving inwards or outwards when it cannot detect the existence of any service request on its way. The Look aIgorithm successfully overcomes thé limitation of thé SCAN algorithm whére the héad is forced tó move from oné end to anothér end of thé disk séquence in-spite óf the fact thát there is nó request left thát needs servicing. LOOK Algorithm movés across all thé disk sequences cyIinders beginning from thé initial request át start side tó the other énd where last réquest is present. One of thé main advantages óf Look aIgorithm is thát it does nót force thé disk arm tó travel thé disk sequence ánd scan the cyIinders when thére is no réquest which needs tó be serviced. This saves á lot of séek time and providés better performance. Algorithm Let us look at the algorithm to get an idea about the whole process: Step 1 The head starts to move from the initial request at the set end of the disk sequence and starts moving towards the remaining request at the last end. While moving from one end to another, the head service all the requests coming in its way. Step 2 When it reaches the end request on the other side, the disk arm turns back to its track. Step 3 Then again it returns to its initial request joining at the starting end and service all the request in its way. Step 4 The process is repeated until there is no service request due. ![]() The head is going towards the larger cylinder number on its path that is the disk is arranged in ascending order.
